Ofor Ewelukwa, MD, MSc

Ofor Ewelukwa, MD, MSc, (pronounced Eh-Way-Luke-Wah) completed his Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery and subsequently, obtained his Masters of Science in Public Health / Health Economics at the University of London prior to relocating to the United States where Dr. Ewelukwa completed his training in Gastroenterology, Liver Diseases and Nutrition at the University of Florida in Gainsville.

Dr. Ewelukwa held the position of Resident Instructor for the Internal Medicine Residency at Wright State University in Dayton, OH and participated with the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN as a Research Fellow in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Ewelukwa is trained GI procedures including Upper Endoscopy (EGD), Colonoscopy, Capsule Endoscopy, SmartPill™ motility testing, Hydrogen Breath Testing, and High Resolution Esophageal Manometry. He provides comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal as well as liver issues, and has specific interests in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).  With his background in health economics he focuses on studies related to the epidemiology, clinical predictors, healthcare disparities and impact of healthcare polices on patient-related outcomes.  Dr. Ewelukwa was fortunate enough to participate in the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America's Visiting IBD Fellowship Program at the University of Chicago.  This enriching and highly interactive Inflammatory Bowel Disease rotation included clinical encounters, clinical conferences, case presentations and an opportunity to work closely with faculty and fellows, improving IBD skills by following a curriculum designed by expert faculty and clinical practices employed at leading IBD centers.

Dr. Ewelukwa has received several honors and accolades, including winning the American College of Physicians, National Associates Competition in 2013.  Dr. Ewelukwas was 1 of only 10 Clinical Vignette Abstract winners selected from over 2,400 entries.  He was also awarded for Scientific Accomplishment as an Early Stage Investigator by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) for his oral abstract presentation at the Digestive Diseases Week in and 2nd place award from the Florida Gastrenterologic Society at the statewide Fellows' Abstract Competition in 2016.

Dr. Ewelukwa participated in the American Gastroenterological Association's (AGA's) Advocacy Day in 2016, visiting Capitol Hill to advocate the strict congressional oversight for the implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) which replaced the Sustainable Growth Rate Formula (SGR) as a determinant for physician reimbursement.  He also advocated for Congress to fund the National Institute of Health at the Senate Appropriations Committee level of $34 Billion. He diligently followed up with the House Congress members that he met, to urge them to support the funding so that it can be included in the current Omnibus Appropriations Bill.  

Dr. Ewelukwa is a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Medical Association (AMA), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), the Harris County Medical Society (HCMS) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).  He sits on the AGA's Institute Practice Management and Economics Committee and previously sat on the House-Staff Quality and Patient Safety Committee (HQPSC) at the University of Florida.

Dr. Ewelukwa is currently seeing patients in our North Houston and Humble offices.
