Dr. Gurunath Reddy Continues to Guide Health Centers to Success

By Robert Swanson - November 10, 2017

Physicians should be the ones leading the charge when it comes to providing quality health care,

HOUSTON November 10, 2017

Around Houston, Dr. Gurunath Reddy is known for his status as a multiple-year winner of several of Houston’s “top doctors” awards. But he has also spearheaded and engaged in founding Continental Hospitals in Hyderabad, India, a hospital which hit its most recent big milestone on October 31st by becoming the first hospital in Hyderabad to implant the world’s smallest pacemaker in an 81-year old bradycardia patient.

Reddy has been collaborating with, and advising the hospital since its inception in 2013. The hospital has achieved many recognitions in a very short span, such as earning the Joint Commission International Accreditation ( JCI ) in two years, and obtaining the prestigious Gold Seal award on the first attempt. It also completed NABH Accreditation ( highest accreditation body in India ) in less than 18 months.

“The complexity of disease in India continually inspires our team to push forward with expediency in order to expand our knowledge and continually improve our medicine,” says Dr Reddy.

The hospital further serves as a model for Reddy’s passion for collaborative care. Reddy educates other physicians on this issue quite often, as it is proven to lead to superior patient outcomes. Continental currently is part of a network of 22 hospitals throughout Asia, and hosts a team of experts from 30 distinct specialties.

Dr. Guru N. Reddy saw a gap in health care quality in India and chose to act, following his passion for improving access to safe, affordable health care around the world.

“Physicians should be the ones leading the charge when it comes to providing quality health care,” Reddy says. “I’m committed to this mission in Houston and in India. I’m proud of the doctors at Continental for this latest accomplishment, and look forward to more ‘firsts’ from the hospital, which has strengthened my vision in multiple ways from the day the doors first opened.”

Reddy is also the founder of Digestive and Liver Disease Consultants here in Houston, another award-winning collaborative care facility. And has contributed to several hospitals in Houston area while serving in their boards over the years.

The Need For A Greater Understanding of Gut Microbiota

Dr. Gurunath Reddy Calls For the Need of a Greater Understanding of Gut Microbiota

By Brad Bennett , in PR PR Health on November 29, 2017 .

“Our understanding of various diseases and their treatment will change significantly with the medical community’s explosive new knowledge of Gut Microbiota,” says Reddy.

ORLANDO, Fla. November 29, 2017

There’s been a lot of buzz in recent years about “gut flora,” or, more accurately, “intestinal microbiota.”

Though many may associate either term with yogurt commercials and weight loss fads, they play a significant role in gastrointestinal health. Dr. Gurunath Reddy recently encouraged his fellow gastroenterologists and other physicians to pay closer attention to these microorganisms while participating at the annual meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology and the World Congress of Gastroenterology, held in October, Orlando, Florida.

“Our understanding of various diseases and their treatment will change significantly with the medical community’s explosive new knowledge of Gut Microbiota,” says Reddy.

Human gastrointestinal tracts contain colonies consisting of trillions of microorganisms. They produce a series of metabolic products known as metablome which can either preserve good health or cause diseases. When the colonies are made up mostly of helpful bacteria they perform a host of useful functions. They train the immune system to function correctly, prevent the growth of harmful bacteria, produce Vitamin K, and produce helpful hormones.

When the balance shifts in favor of the bad bacteria many diseases may take hold. These include Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBS), Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Celiac Disease, Depression, Rheumatoid Arthritis, colon cancer, vascular diseases, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, obesity, Diabetes, metabolic syndrome, gastroenteritis, infections, and many more conditions. Some recent studies even show they can influence the effectiveness of certain cancer treatments. This balance is influenced by several factors, including the age of the patient, diet, living conditions, use of proton pump inhibitors, and the use of antibiotics.

The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the World Congress of Gastroenterology meet on an annual basis to discuss advances in the field, best practices and new treatment approaches. Learn more about the American College of Gastroenterology at https://gi.org/, and about the World Congress of Gastroenterology by visiting https://worldcongressacg2017.org.

Dr. Gurunath Reddy Continues to Educate Physicians on the Importance of EHRs

Dr. Gurunath Reddy Continues to Educate Physicians on the Importance of EHRs

Local physician stresses: electronic health records are one of the greatest assets in navigating an ever-changing health system.

EHRs are especially important in our volatile industry, because they allow physicians to demonstrate their quality of care to government agencies and insurance providers

HOUSTON (PRWEB) NOVEMBER 16, 2017

Dr. Gurunath Reddy has been an advocate of electronic health record (EHR) systems for a long time. As the health care landscape continues to shift, so too does this award-winning doctor continue to educate his colleagues on the benefits of abandoning paper health records.

Some patients must visit multiple specialists to achieve wellness. EHRs allow various practices to seamlessly exchange clinical data. This allows physicians to improve their quality of care by increasing communication across the multiple sites and specialties. Legislators favor the use of EHR technology as well, providing many incentives to the physicians who choose to embrace this technology.

EHR systems have been available for nearly two decades, but some physicians continue to rely on paper records. The cost of implementation serves as one barrier to adopting this technology. Uncertainty as to whether the EHR will truly serve the practice’s needs serves as another barrier. Reddy points out web-based EHRs can serve as a cost-effective alternative to a full installation, but stresses that physicians should prioritize functionality over price.

“EHRs are especially important in our volatile industry, because they allow physicians to demonstrate their quality of care to government agencies and insurance providers,” says Reddy. “Implementing one can help ensure a medical practice survives no matter what our nation’s leaders choose to do about the future of health care in the United States.”

Other advantages of these systems include reduction of expenses, more accurate billing and coding and the ability to access real-time patient information at multiple locations. Further with the Governments mandated quality indicators and other reporting parameters in the coming years EMR/ EHR will become all the more important in data collecting for such reporting.

Reddy has been touting the benefits of those systems for over 17 years.

“I am passionate about advocating for any method which has proven itself to be an effective tool in the quest to achieve the best possible patient outcomes”, he says.

Award-winning physician makes major strides against Hospital Associated Infections

Dr. Gurunath Reddy Fights HAI Rates Across Two Continents

Award-winning physician makes major strides against Hospital Associated Infections

Strictly following both national and international standards in health care is non-negotiable to me. HAIs are both unnecessary and unacceptable, and I’m going to continue to work to stamp them out.

HOUSTON, TX (PRWEB) OCTOBER 26, 2017

To Dr. Gurunath Reddy, nothing short of a 0% HAI (Hospital Acquired Infection) rate will do. And if perfection isn’t possible, he’ll get as close as he can – both for patients in his adopted Houston home state of over 30 years, and for patients in his home town in Hyderabad, India.

While on sabbatical, he regularly commutes between the two.

Here in Houston, he devotes his time to patients at Digestive and Liver Disease Consultants, PA. The clinic’s ambulatory surgical center, North Houston Endoscopy and Surgery dba., Memorial Hermann Endoscopy Center, North Houston, has been recognized for its state-of-the-art safety standards, winning accreditation from JACHO and AAAHC, in part due to Reddy’s influence and commitment to top-notch patient care.

In 2013, Reddy was retained as a senior clinical advisor and a Board Member at Continental Hospital in Hyderabad, India. Thanks to Reddy’s focus on quality, design and patient service it became the first hospital in India in less than two years of operations to win JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation, considered the “gold standard” in global health care. Continental is also the first multi-specialty hospital in the world to achieve JCI accreditation in less than two years. Low HAI rates were critical to achieving this prestigious recognition: the hospital managed a 0% Surgical Site Infection Rate and a negligible HAI rate after performing over 3,000 major surgeries over a two-year period.

Reddy continues his mission to provide high-quality, affordable care, refusing to compromise on any safety standards.

“I can’t stress this enough,” says Reddy. “Strictly following both national and international standards in health care is non-negotiable to me. HAIs are both unnecessary and unacceptable, and I’m going to continue to work to stamp them out.”
